The Academic Advising Unit is pioneering and distinguished in providing counseling services that contribute to the development of the various abilities and skills of college students. The unit seeks to develop academic, self-, and professional skills for students, provide assistance and attention to struggling and outstanding students, and those with special needs, and provide support and guidance to students according to their needs and personal interests to take advantage of their capabilities, work on developing their skills and encourage them to excel and be creative.

Academic advising acquaints the student with the college, its deanship and support departments, and how to obtain its services in cooperation and coordination with the specialized administration of the college. It also educates students about the academic difficulties they may face, and how to prepare study plans and schedules.

 

Tasks:
  • Preparing new students, welcoming them on the first day of school, and introducing them to the university's laws and regulations and the university environment.

  • Helping students choose the appropriate specialization according to their capabilities, scientific inclinations, and the needs of the labor market.

  • Preparing a special file for each student, explaining the university regulations and systems, and introducing them to their rights, duties, and graduation requirements.

  • Preparing the student and guiding him in choosing the appropriate courses by the academic plan and achieving the best scientific outputs.

  • Assisting the student in preparing the study schedule to complete the graduation requirements within the maximum number of years allowed.

  • Follow up with students who are failing academically and help them overcome their stumbling blocks and achieve the desired success.

  • Extending a helping hand to students facing difficulties, in cooperation and coordination with the college administration, and proposing appropriate solutions.

  • Communicating effectively with students, listening to them and involving them in planning their studies, and investing in their experiences to overcome the obstacles that come their way during their studies.

  • The student can communicate with the academic advisor through e-mail or visit him/her during office hours.
